Christina Romer Resigns


USA President Barack Obama lost the second member of his command of the economy, as an economist Christina Romer decided to return to teaching in anticipation of the employment report could highlight the struggle to promote the administration of benefits.

Romer, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, is returned to office in the University of California at Berkeley, the White House said yesterday. She is interested in becoming a regional Federal Reserve Banks of San Francisco, according to an acquaintance with her plans who asked to remain anonymous

The resignation follows the departure in July of Peter Orszag as director of the Office of Management and Budget in July. This creates another hole at a time when Obama sought to emphasize the administration record on the resumption of growth on the eve of the November congressional elections.

"Economics of the team in the Obama administration is in a difficult position, losing the other person a little anxious," said Julia Coronado, senior economist at the U.S. BNP Paribas in New York and a former Federal Reserve in Washington. "Our team has not been very active in discussing what should be done in light of recent weakness in the economy and in their power to stand."

Obama also yesterday saw one of its candidates to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve hit the parliamentary snag in the Senate.
