This marathon was started in 1971 and every year, inviting more than 9000 runners in the competition. In 1982, the Portland Marathon became the first U.S. marathon to reach the AIMS (International Association of Marathons) circuit. The marathon course is not very easy for the winding course has 21 turns, of which 20 are over 90 degrees. The marathon begins and ends in the charming Chapman / Lownsdale Parks / Schrunk. Like every year, including this year's event is likely to become a great success.
The first five miles of Portland Marathon will be in downtown Portland. The first mile is a gradual decrease, while the next two miles will be along the Waterfront Park. Sixth Avenue until mile 12, the race will be comparatively easy, since it would cut into the plains and the northwest section of the city. The following sections of the marathon course to cover some of the most spectacular places like the Forest Park area, San Juan Bridge and the Willamette River.
Runners who participate in the event are very excited because the weather is expected to be more enjoyable than last year's event. Meanwhile, a pre-race show was held at the Portland Hilton Hotel on Friday and Saturday.
