Friends and fans of the television celebrity legend Stephen J. Cannell has issued comments - or taken to their Twitter accounts - to mourn the late writer and producer, who died Thursday at 69 years of age. This is what they said:
Kevin Spacey, who starred Wiseguy Cannell, to EW, "Stephen J. Cannell gave me my first break on television when I put as Mel Profitt in the CBS series Wiseguy [in] 1997. The character was a creation as glorious as in an incredible series, which led to many other opportunities for me as an actor, you never forget your grace, wit, writing style and his ability to bring the work memorable television. From The Rockford Files to Black Squad Sheep, its impact on emerging talent in writing - who always gave his support - continues to bring great writing to the actors and directors in the film industry. He has left an enormous legacy that his family, friends and colleagues can take pride in. He was a giant. "
William Katt, star of The Cannell of America's greatest hero, EW: "More than the extraordinary literary talent that everyone in the industry knew Stephen as I remember it as one of the best people I've had the privilege of knowing. A handsome man, a compassionate soul, a good friend, was one of the greatest mentors in my life. I really miss him. "
Rob Estes, who starred in the Silk Stocking Cannell, EW: "Stephen brought a touch down to earth and human resources for all aspects of their lives, including their production. He was a wonderful teacher and a great friend."
