San Bruno LargeExplosion


A strong explosion rocked San Bruno, near San Francisco International Airport last night, according to reports.
A massive fireball and columns of smoke were visible for miles after the explosion, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
San Mateo County sheriff's deputies and police were evacuating residents near a fire, as firefighters went door to door, asking people to leave their homes and setting up machinery to fight the flames, the report said .
It is unclear at this time what caused the explosion which occurred around 6 pm local time. The local utility officials were investigating whether the source of the explosion was a major natural gas pipeline, AFP reported separately.
According to the Chronicle report, more than a dozen houses were in flames in a fire out of control jumping from building to building, with one person taken to hospital.
