Ocracoke Island And Hurricane Earl

Hurricane Earl still brewing in the Western Atlantic, authorities in the Outer Banks of North Carolina are beginning to evacuate Ocracoke Island via ferry. Ocracoke Island, which is filled with about 5,000 people on holiday, is only accessible by ferry, so it is very dangerous if a hurricane close, because after a certain point it is impossible to escape.

Hurricane Earl is still a major hurricane this morning, while moving northwest at about 16 mph. The National Hurricane Center has revised its projected path slightly west from yesterday, indicating that the Outer Banks of North Carolina may experience strong hurricane force winds. The path near the coast of the Outer Banks, sometime Friday morning, as it is still a major hurricane. The speed of progress should pick up there later, Earl placed somewhere east of Cape Cod early Saturday. Please refer to the NHC provides route 08 a.m. box above. All interests along the U.S. East Coast need to pay close attention to any changes made to the projected path for the next 24-48 hours.
