Drew Brees

They are probably used for hangovers in this city. They managed to avoid a whopper of a Thursday night.
Super Bowl champions for the first time in its history with bleary eyes often woke Saints in the second half to kick off their title defense with a 14-9 victory over Brett Favre and the Vikings in a rematch of the NFC Championship last year.
The Saints scored touchdowns on their opening drives of each half and rallied from a halftime deficit to two points in an unexpected defensive battle. Pierre Thomas went from the one yard line to a top 11 plays for 74 yards as the Saints regained the lead before handing the game to their defense, which held the Vikings to 65 yards in the second half and stopped the Vikings more deep - and final - in the penetration of the Saints 44 with 5:32 left. The Saints were able to run the rest of the clock, perhaps his most impressive feat offensive game.
Rusty after returning to the outside Vikeså other retirement August 18, the soon-to-be 41-year-old Favre finished the game 15-of-27 for 171 yards, one TD and one interception, but only three of his completions to wide receivers. Adrian Peterson carried 19 times for just 87 yards with his longest run of 11 yards.
Brees was 27-36 for 237 yards and nine different receivers.
