Doctor Shot In Johns Hopkins Hospital


A doctor was shot in the abdomen of the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Thursday morning by a gunman who then locked in one of the buildings of the hospital, authorities said.
The gunman was reported that on the eighth floor of a building in the center of the sprawling campus of 52 hectares, this hospital in Baltimore. Baltimore police said they were "in the process of a tactical operation" intended to capture the gunman.


"There is no risk to the general public, there is no risk to patients, the situation is contained," said Detective Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for Baltimore police, at a conference outside the hospital in the early afternoon.
Audrey Huang, a hospital spokesman confirmed that at 11:15 am, a man shot at a medical college in an area of the patient at the center chest in the building of Nelson, and that all hospital buildings principal had been blocked in the response.
Detective Kevin Brown of the Baltimore police, said shortly after noon that the gunman was "limited" but not yet in custody. Detective Brown said the doctor's injury did not appear life threatening, which had been taken for surgery, and it was not known yet whether he knew or had any relationship with the gunman.
Johns Hopkins Hospital, the largest private employer in Baltimore, is one of the main institutions of the nation's medical research and teaching hospitals, and draws patients from around the country and other countries in need of specialized treatment or experimental. The hospital complex has more than 1,000 beds and 1,700 medical assistants, and is about half a million patients a year, according to the website of the Hospital.
The hospital was to restrict access to the main buildings and evacuate patients in the building of Nelson to other areas of the hospital, according to a statement issued by Johns Hopkins University. The police had blocked some streets in the area as employees of unresolved incidents that had spilled on the street.
