Promoters Infra GTL

American manufacturer of mobile chips Qualcomm  is fully prepared to sell 26 percent stake in the new broadband venture with two Indian companies - Global Holdings , as well as enterprise communications provider Tulip Telecom.

Qualcomm has been around for the exploration of the Indian partners after winning the broadband spectrum in four circles of Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala for the PC 4,912.54 rupees at the recent auctions.

On foreign direct investment rules governing the telecommunications sector, Qualcomm may only contain a maximum of 74 per cent of the shares of telecommunications services.

Since the share sale will enable the Indian company Qualcomm to meet the criteria to claim the spectrum it won. Other winners of the broadband spectrum, including Reliance Industries-owned INFOTEL, Bharti Airtel, BSNL and Aircel has already received spectrum as they perform the licensing conditions.

Although details of the transaction between Qualcomm and two Indian companies will be announced on Friday, the partnership aims to ensure that the American company will release a network that will compliment the 3G services being deployed by operators.

Global Holdings, which is close to 80000 towers by GTL Infra, can bring the tower network in the table providing a more rapid deployment. Tulip Telecom has an extensive communications network company with a strong corporate client base.

None of the companies invited to comment because the deal will be officially announced on Friday. However, sources claim that to go forward, Qualcomm could rope more partners, which may include the operator.

Qualcomm made it clear that he did not intend to remain in the segment of telecommunications services for more than 2-3 years. The company expects to build partnership of different actors, and then leave the company.

Qualcomm wanted to place Time Division Long Term Evolution (TD-LTE), which is widely considered the fourth generation (4G) technology offers broadband speeds over 10 Mbps. This technology Wimax competitor and is expected to be available for deployment of the first quarter of next year. Network established Qualcomm may act as traffic throughput provider 3G players of high class data services.
