Kaye Cowher Died Due To Cancer

Today So sad news from Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - Kaye Cowher (pictured, far left), wife of ex-Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher, lost her battle with skin cancer and died Friday in North Carolina at the age of 54.

Ms. Cowher was a native of North Carolina - Cowhers met while visiting North Carolina in 1976 - and Cowhers moved there after Bill retired from coaching in January 2007.

Services will be held on Monday.

Ms. Cowher played basketball at North Carolina State, and one of the first women in her native country to get a sports scholarship, in accordance with Bouchette. Later, she played women's professional basketball league before the league folded in 1981. Then she married her husband, who played for the Cleveland Brown. Cowhers '3 daughters, Megan, Lauren and Lindsay were all basketball players, referring to the strong influence of his mother - and grandmother. Their father initially did not want to play, but it was abolished in the mother, Mrs. Cowher.

Perhaps the most consistent public memory of Mrs. Cowher is a hug she gave her husband, after the Pittsburgh Steelers lost Super Bowl XXX for the Dallas Cowboys. It was, in accordance with Bouchette, a regular presence in the press boxes at the Steelers game days.
