Earthquake in Michigan and elsewhere happened around 2 p.m. as twitted by Michigan populace. The Press received electronic mails from people as far away as Livonia and Rochester Hills stating that they also felt the tremors.
Alan Aho, an employee at Foremost Insurance Headquarters situated in Southern Kent County, stated that the tremors have driven employees in their office to stand up and take notice.
“I was on phone working at my desk, and my co-worker said something to another co-worker like, ‘Did you feel that?’ I asked what he was talking about and about 5 seconds later it felt like our whole building was on water just swaying back and forth.”
The National Weather Service confirmed that there was an earthquake. The earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5 according to the Geological Services of United States. That magnitude is classified as moderate and can cause slight damage to buildings and other structures.
Brian Meade, a National Weather Service Meteorologist, also said that phones have been ringing at the service’s Kent County offices about the tremors that shook the air tower at nearby Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
Also, staff of the Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming called The Press to report tremors. Angie Gravelyn, Metro Health Hospital Project Coordinator for the Hospital Foundation, uttered that she and several employees were shocked when they felt the building shaking shortly before 2 p.m.
