Mack Brown And Greg Davis Latest Updates

Mack Brown and Greg Davis are parting ways, spending most of the past 25 years on the sideline together, according to a report Wednesday.

Greg Davis, 59, will be replaced by offensive coordinator of the Longhorns, news reportes. No official announcement was made at the university, no one is scheduled for Wednesday, according to the news.

Greg Davis will remain on staff as a non-coaching, the report said. No candidates for replacement have been mentioned. Greg Davis worked for the same position in Texas since 1998, when he and Mack Brown from North Carolina.

Brown, traditionally loyal to their mates and keep them on staff, despite the harsh criticism. This year, however, Texas was disappointing season 07/05 and finished last in the Big 12 South. It was the worst sign of Brown's career in Austin.

Crime, in particular, seemed to struggle. Sophomore quarterback Garrett Gilbert, who has never started a game before this season, threw a conference worst 17 interceptions.

Both Greg Davis and Brown had a long talk in the preseason to establish the power running game, but it never came to fruition. "Horn is ranked seventh in the conference in rushing yards per game and 10 th in scoring offense. Texas scored more than 35 points only once this season at home against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 20.

Fans demanded that Greg Davis be replaced during the season. The first real sign of trouble came in a 34-12 embarrassment at home against Los Angeles: Longhorns have not reached the end zone until the fourth quarter, after the game was decided.

It all went downhill from there, but the low temperature seemed to be in Manhattan at the time of release 39-14 loss to Kansas State. Texas was shut down after three quarters, and Gilbert threw five interceptions.

Whoever replaces Greg Davis will inherit the talent, but needs to quickly establish the identity. Texas fans fed up with Greg Davis' insistence on the screen and throw the ball out wide, rather than looking downfield passes.

Only a year ago, Texas finished the season ranked third in the country in scoring offense. In 2008, the Horn of an average of about 500 m and more than 43 points per contest.
