Jack Johnson Arrested Latest Updates

County chief executive of Prince George and his wife were charged Friday with tampering with evidence after hitting his cell phone operators heard him say a single check for $ 100,000 from a developer on the toilet and hide about $ 80,000 cash in his underwear as FBI agents were at his door, according to an affidavit.
County Executive Jack Johnson, whose second term expires next month, and his wife, Leslie, who was recently elected to the Provincial Council, were charged with witnesses and evidence handling and destruction, alteration and falsification of records in an investigation federal. Jack Johnson said late Friday that he was innocent of the charges.
The investigation related to allegations that some real estate developers in the county were to bribe public officials in exchange for official actions favorable to the developers and some of its businesses.
The Johnson could be heard on the phone by FBI agents discuss how to get rid of the evidence, after agents came knocking at Mitchellville home on Friday, according to an affidavit of researchers.
After Johnson told his wife: "No answer", commissioned by telephone up to his room and destroy the check, the affidavit said.
"Tear it up! That's all you have to do," Johnson said his wife, according to the affidavit.
Leslie Johnson then heard her husband asking, "Do I want to put in the toilet?"
The county executive said, "Yes, blush," according to the affidavit, which said surveillance officers heard a flushing sound in the background.
Johnson told his wife to put money in his underwear, according to the affidavit. After FBI agents entered the house, searched Leslie Johnson and recovered $ 79,600 of his underwear.
The Johnsons were arrested in the country and released later under the supervision of pretrial services. Jack Johnson was placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring. Both face a maximum of 20 years in prison.
Jack Johnson said after he was released: "All citizens of the County of Prince George's, I know I've served for a long time I have served you well, and most of you know me, so I can not go to these accusations, .. because my lawyers will kill me if I do. I am innocent of these charges. I can not wait for the facts to come out. When they leave, I am absolutely convinced it will be vindicated. "
Roland Patterson, Leslie Johnson's lawyer, said he is asking for prayers and support "through the ordeal of the struggle to refute charges that are pending against her now."
Jack Johnson is represented by attorney William Martin.
FBI agents said in an affidavit that they learned through an investigation initiated almost five years that real estate developers based in Prince George and its partners are regularly provided things of value to public officials in exchange for favors for they and their companies.
