Enes Kanter And NCAA basketball tournament 2010

Kentucky possibilities far in the NCAA basketball tournament was a significant effect Thursday when the NCAA ruled that the center of freshmen Enes Kanter was permanently ineligible.

The NCAA, Kentucky said he would appeal the decision, said in a statement that she and the university agreed that Kanter 6-foot-11 received $ 33,033, plus expenses during the 2008-9 season when he played for a high equipment in a professional league in Turkey, where it is.
"Enes took the opportunity to play at the highest level available, but the consequences of receiving payments in excess of actual expenses is not compatible with the university model of sports that our members have developed," said Kevin Lennon, the NCAA 's vice president for academic affairs and composition.
The decision ultimately came down to the determination of the NCAA as "real and necessary" expenses were Kanter.
In an interview with The New York Times in September, Nedim Karakas, general manager for Team Kanter, Fenerbahce Ulker, said Kanter and his family received more than $ 100,000 in salaries and expenses over a period of three years.
It seems that the figure of $ 33,033 and Kentucky that the NCAA agreed included a bonus of $ 19,800 received Kanter to make the best club Fenerbahce, along with their weekly salary.
Kentucky will be of interest to the end of November. Kanter will be able to practice with the Wildcats 11 ranking during the appeal process.
"We are aware that the NCAA has an appeals process for this young man to defend the uniqueness of their situation," said Mitch Barnhart, Kentucky's athletic director. "Enes is a great guy he is working hard in the classroom and enjoy being a college student. It is our hope that he will continue his academic and athletic career at Kentucky."
The decision was not a surprise to many in college basketball as it was known that Kanter had played for the senior team Fenerbahce in Euroleague games.
Steve Smith, the coach at Oak Hill Academy, a powerhouse of high school in Virginia, said he did not feel comfortable having Kanter on his team because he had played in the senior professional game in Europe.
Kanter, 18, is considered one of the best big men in the world for his age. His absence leaves the Wildcats thin in the low post. Have to rely on the proven Eloy Vargas, a transfer of 11.6 school.
