"The turnout was higher this time. This means that the BJP will deliver another humiliating defeat for the Congress," BJP election headquarters by Bhatgaon and senior state minister Brijmohan Agrawal said.
The Congress said the results were shown all the statements and calculations of the BJP.
"Let them think what they want, the result will be surprising to BJP. A high turnout has always been successful against the party in power," said the Chhattisgarh Congress unit president Dhanendra Sahu.
Congress has 39 members in the State Assembly and has to start the BJP seat to reduce the margin to the ruling party as a choice for an extra seat - Balod in Durg district is set to be held soon after the death of meeting of the BJP legislature Madanlal Sahu in August.
The BJP won the seat comfortably Bhatgaon in the last assembly polls in November 2008 and running for Congress, even lost his deposit when voter turnout was almost 72 percent against 75 percent at this time. The party has 47 seats in a 90-member state assembly.
The BJP is desperate to retain the seat left vacant by the death of Ravi Shankar Tripathi, 55, in a car accident in April.
The saffron party sent the late leader's wife Rajni Tripathi, while the U.S. Congress Singhdeo took the royal family as its candidate former Surguja. There are 12 candidates in the race.
The vote for the seat in Bhatgaon Surguja district, some 400 km from here, took place on Friday.
BJP leaders here are confident of the victory of women as voters came out in large numbers in comparison with men to vote.
