Some chronicles the 40-yard touchdown to Greg Child with 15 seconds left as Mallett the "Heisman moment."
Toppling top-ranked Alabama this afternoon could force some to review their work.
Mallett is not only a serious threat for the Crimson Tide's No. 1 ranking, but a special performance at Razorback Stadium could boost the initiative for the Heisman.
One name seems to have lost one of the heavy exchange of questions and answers was quarterback with big brains Alabama, Greg McElroy. A similar scenario played last season: a lot of attention Mallett, not so much by McElroy.
The napkins were placed perfectly for a roast of pork, McElroy twist a fork in Mallett and pigs en route to a 35-7 victory.
"Last year, I was playing all season with a chip on my shoulder ... the fact that Ryan had gained much respect, and he and I had started the same number of games in the SEC at that point," said McElroy, who is 17-0 as a starter and has not lost a game since the eighth grade.
"I have great respect for him. Obviously, he's a great player and has done great things for Arkansas."
Last season, Mallett was virtually defenseless against the defensive pressure of Red Tide, launching a career low of-160 yards, one touchdown and one interception. By contrast, the Hogs McElroy picked apart for 291 yards and three touchdowns in completing 71 percent of his passes. It was his most productive game of Alabama's national championship run.
"Type of people dream of their capacity," said Arkansas defensive end Jake Bequette. "I think it's a bit more talent than people give credit for, and we're going to have to really need him."
Alabama has a versatile offense with plenty of looks against poker to frustrate defensive coordinators.
The Razorbacks will have to run the game Crimson Tide guard, perhaps filling the box to stop Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and fellow running back Trent Richardson.
"When teams tried to do that, we'd have to create a better balance in what we have done to try to be more difficult to defend for most men could not put in the box which could block," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "That's something we've tried to do in each of our games this year so far is to create balance and make explosive plays in other ways."
If the Crimson Tide can impose its will and maintain the balance of the Hogs, McElroy was able to repeat his performance from a year ago, perhaps raising his profile nationally.
"The beauty of our offense is we have a" choose your poison "mentality," McElroy said.
