The director of Fortis Hospital Mohali, Col Harinder Chehal said an estimated 10 000 newborn girls are subjected to infanticide, with more than five million female fetuses aborted based on gender discrimination each year. He added startling facts that over 50% of cases of sexual harassment are directed towards girls who are 15 or under that age.
Therefore this initiative from the side of Fortis is a way of improving the health and welfare of women in particular for the poorest sectors of our society that leave these girls the double purpose of humanity.
This year the day of the Daughters of Fortis also celebrates the fourth anniversary of Chetana, a welfare program for the child and is taking the case of Meenakshi who suffers from a kidney disorder. Daughter's Day celebrated each year on 26 September and is a positive initiative to express the value and pride of girls.
