Dr.Lyle Evans



Lyle Evelyn Lillian (Evans) King, known by most as Lyle Evans, is responsible for the growth of library services in Saskatchewan school through their initiative, enthusiasm and effort to the relevant school boards, superintendents, principals, teachers, librarians and teachers on the need for improved school library services in the province. After NORMAL SCHOOL, Evans taught from 1930-1939, both in primary and secondary schools. He earned a BA in 1940 from the University of Saskatchewan, a BLS in 1942 by the University of Toronto, and MLS in 1952 from Columbia University. He worked at the Toronto Public Library and then the Graham-Eckes private school in Palm Beach, Florida from 1942 to 1945. She returned to Saskatchewan in 1946 to become the first Supervisor of School Libraries in the province, and the first designated in Canada. She developed at the Normal School course in the organization, management and use of library school that eventually became part of the university education program.

Lyle Evans helped establish the school library demonstration projects from the first locally supported project in Cupar School Unit # 28 in 1947 to the most elaborate of Saskatchewan School Library Demonstration Project at Columbia School in Yorkton . Their efforts ensured that in 1947-48 the curriculum includes the provision of school library, including personnel, materials, programs and rules of real space for a library. She taught at the faculty of education, assisted in production of radio, film and book exhibitions, and author of numerous articles and pamphlets. In 1962, he was appointed Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus, where he was responsible for the program in the school library service until 1974.

Some of the accomplishments of others become president of Evans involved SASKATCHEWAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION (1950-51), president of the Canadian Library Association (CLA) Education Committee for the School of Library Science (1952), organizer of the first annual workshop on the School Library Service in the province (1953), president of the CLA Young People Section, director of the American Association of School Librarians (1958-60), chairman of the organizing committee of the Association of School Librarians Saskatchewan (SSLA) in 1959, Council member (1961-63) and later president (1969-70) of the Canadian Association of School Libraries (CSLA), and Margaret B.
