The representative of the largest bank in the country, Tara Burke declined to specify the reason for trip Friday, except to say that it was a “temporary systems” issue.
She could not say whether the site has experienced such a widespread disconnect before.
The bank, based in Charlotte, NC, said the service was restored at approximately 5:15 pm EDT. Break began about 1:25 pm EDT. Some customers may still have trouble logging in because of the large volume of people trying to access the site.
Customers can also obtain account information through ATMs and banking centers. Burke said none of the bank’s 18,000 ATMs America suffered from the accident.
