Allies staged military exercises in response to what they say was a deadly North Korean submarine attack on a South Korean warship. They have shrugged off the threat of North Korea's possible nuclear retaliation for an exercise.
Nearly 20 vessels, including the 97,000-tonne aircraft carrier George Washington, 200 aircraft, including four F-22 Raptor stealth fighter aircraft and 8000 people participated in major joint exercises for many years.
drills Tuesday will be aimed at the destruction of penetration of hostile submarines, semi-submersible high-speed boats and marine special forces, a spokesman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul, told foreign news agencies.
Some anti-ship and anti-drill will be practiced and fighter jets launch missiles at sea and on the sites on earth.
